Position Overview
Inventive Technologies Corporation is seeking a Business Systems Analyst with strong data analytics capabilities to support a portfolio of applications, integrations, and data platforms for our US Government customer.
The Business Systems Analyst will work at the intersection of business requirements, applications, and data. The role will engage client stakeholders to understand business and analytical needs, translate those needs into actionable application and data requirements, analyze grants and program data, support data-quality and integration activities, and help design reports, dashboards, and other analytical products that enable better decision-making.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with both business users and technical teams and can move from a stakeholder discussion to requirements, data analysis, validation, and ultimately a useful solution.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with business users, data owners, stakeholders, SMEs, developers, and data specialists to understand business processes, information needs, and desired outcomes.
- Gather and document functional, reporting, data, and analytics requirements, including user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, data definitions, metrics, and source-to-target requirements.
- Analyze grants, program, financial, and related data to identify trends, anomalies, data-quality issues, relationships, and opportunities for improved reporting or decision support.
- Use SQL and analytical tools to query, profile, validate, reconcile, and analyze data from multiple sources.
- Work with data owners and technical teams to define authoritative data elements, business definitions, transformation rules, and data-quality expectations.
- Support integration of data from applications and external sources into reporting repositories and the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
- Assist with data mapping, source-to-target analysis, reconciliation, and validation of ETL and data-integration processes.
- Identify data-quality issues involving completeness, consistency, duplication, validity, and business-rule compliance and work with technical teams and data owners to resolve them.
- Translate stakeholder questions into metrics, KPIs, reports, dashboards, and analytical requirements.
- Work with end users to design intuitive reports and dashboards that turn complex data into understandable, actionable information.
- Develop prototypes, analyses, visualizations, or ad hoc reports to help stakeholders refine analytical requirements before implementation.
- Support backlog refinement, sprint planning, feasibility analysis, requirements reviews, demonstrations, and other Agile/Scrum activities.
- Maintain traceability between business and data requirements, Jira work items, development, testing, and delivered capabilities.
- Develop test scenarios and support functional, data-validation, regression, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Validate that reports, dashboards, interfaces, and data products accurately reflect approved business rules and source data.
- Support documentation, release readiness, knowledge transfer, and handoff of completed application and data enhancements.
- Maintain requirements, decisions, analysis, and supporting documentation in Jira and Confluence.
Required Qualifications

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with complex datasets and business processes.
- Working knowledge of SQL, including the ability to query data, perform validation, investigate discrepancies, and support analytical requirements.
- Experience with data analysis, profiling, reconciliation, or data-quality assessment.
- Experience defining metrics, KPIs, reports, dashboards, or other analytical products.
- Experience developing user stories, acceptance criteria, process documentation, and requirements specifications.
- Experience working with software developers, data engineers, ETL developers, or database teams.
- Experience supporting testing and UAT, including validation of data and reporting outputs.

- Experience with Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow or comparable tools.
- Experience with Human-Centered Design or user-centered requirements techniques.

What Success Looks Like
The successful candidate will do more than document requirements. You will help our client determine what its data means, whether it can be trusted, and how it can be used.
You will be able to move comfortably between conversations with program staff, examination of underlying data, discussions with developers and data engineers, and validation of the resulting application, report, dashboard, or data product. You will help turn stakeholder questions into well-defined requirements and turn data into information that is accurate, accessible, and useful for decision-making.
As our client’s environment evolves, this position is expected to play an increasing role in connecting application modernization with data management, integration, reporting, and analytics.
Security Requirements
Personnel supporting this program must satisfy applicable US Government personnel-security, background-investigation, identification, information-security training, and Rules of Behavior requirements.
